Tania served as a Senior Project Coordinator with the Southeast Immigrant Freedom Initiative at the Southern Poverty Law Center in New Orleans, LA. Born in Queens, New York, to Colombian and Ecuadorian immigrant parents, she graduated from City College’s Center for Worker Education. Previously, she was a COVID-19 Case Investigator for New York City Health and Hospitals and served as Donor Relations and Events Coordinator at Make the Road New York, managing a volunteer network of allies supporting immigrant members. A long-time composting advocate, Tania worked with an environmental non-profit in partnership with NYC's Department of Sanitation and completed farm apprenticeships in NYC, becoming a Master Composter. She has also served as a legal assistant at a private immigration law firm. Tania serves as a steering committee member for the Southeast Dignity Not Detention Coalition, advocating to end immigrant detention in the Southeast U.S. In her personal life, she enjoys cooking, biking, loving on her pets, Milo and Boo, and being a caretaker to her energetic stepson, Jack.
